La estadounidense Joni Mitchell ha anunciado la edición de “Archives Vol. 2 The Reprise Years 1968 -1971” coincidiendo con las celebraciones por el 50 aniversario de “Blue” (disco contenido en “The Reprise Albums (1968-1971)”, caja que se edita el próximo viernes 2 de julio en dos formatos, cuatro CDs y cuatro LPs). El sello Rhino pondrá en circulación esta nueva box set de cinco CDs el próximo 29 de octubre de 2021.
Los temas contenidos en esta caja se han secuenciado cronológicamente para dar una perspectiva temporal del desarrollo de la música de Mitchell a lo largo de uno de los períodos más creativos de su carrera.
La colección incluye varios originales inéditos de la artista como “Jesus”, grabado en 1969 en el apartamento neoyorquino de su amiga Jane Lurie en Chelsea, que también sirvió de escenario para la canción “Chelsea Morning”.
Otros momentos destacados son la actuación de Mitchell en Le Hibou Coffee House, en Ottawa, el 19 de marzo de 1968, que fue grabada por Jimi Hendrix, y un concierto en el Teatro de París, en Londres, el 29 de octubre de 1970, que fue retransmitido por la BBC. Este último incluye varias canciones destinadas a aparecer en “Blue” al año siguiente: “Carey”, “River” y “My Old Man”. Además, el cantautor James Taylor se unió a Mitchell para actuar con ella durante la segunda mitad del espectáculo. Entre los demás tesoros de ARCHIVES VOL. 2 se encuentra el debut completo de Mitchell en el Carnegie Hall, grabado el 1 de febrero de 1969, unos meses antes de la publicación de su segundo álbum, “Clouds”, que le valdría a Mitchell el primero de sus nueve premios Grammy.
La caja incluye también un libreto ilustrado con fotos inéditas de la colección personal de Mitchell, así como nuevas notas de presentación con conversaciones sobre la época entre el escritor y cineasta Cameron Crowe y Mitchell.
