METALLICA anuncian la reedición de «…And Justice For All»

Los norteamericanos Metallica acaban de anunciar la salida al mercado para el próximo noviembre de «…And Justice For All», obra que saldrá dentro de la serie de reediciones de todo el catálogo de la banda que está siendo lanzado en orden cronológico (el anterior lanzamiento, casi sin previo aviso, fue el EP «The $5.98 E.P. Garage Days Re-Revisited» para el último Record Store Day).

Se trata sin duda alguna de la reedición con más morbo de las lanzadas hasta el momento, y por varias razones: en primer lugar, «…And Justice For All» es el primer larga duración que el grupo lanzó tras la muerte de Cliff Burton, pero sobre todo estamos ante un disco cuyas mezclas han sido objeto de controversia desde el mismo momento de su lanzamiento original.

Y es que por todos es conocido el deficiente -cuando no inexistente- sonido de bajo que posee el disco (tal vez habría que decir mejor «del que carece»). Aunque la responsabilidad de la jugada siempre recayó en hombros de James Hetfield y Lars Ulrich, con el paso de los años se han ido conociendo los verdaderos motivos de la mezcla. Se han aducido razones técnicas (la guitarra de Hetfield suena en las mismas frecuencias que el bajo del entonces recién incorporado Jason Newsted), aunque también parece que la banda quería hacer una especie de homenaje a Cliff Burton.

Sea como fuere, en los últimos años y gracias a los avances tecnológicos y al abaratamiento del software, algunos fans han querido enmendar la plana a los de San Francisco realizando sus propias mezclas del disco, obviamente subiendo octavas el volumen de la pista de bajo y puestas a disposición de todos los metalheads a través de Youtube (alguna con el elocuente título de «…And Justice For Jason»). Un trabajo encomiable, aunque el acercamiento de la propia banda ha sido el completamente opuesto: tanto algunos miembros de la banda como el propio Newsted han declarado en los últimos tiempos que el disco fue concebido de esa manera y que así debe permanecer. Algo que personalmente me parece totalmente respetable, porque si algún día emergen las cintas oiriginales con las pistas de bajo y se decide remezclar el álbum, ya no estaríamos hablando del «…And Justice For All» que todos conocemos.

Así, aunque esta reedición se anuncia como «remasterizada para la calidad de sonido más avanzada posible», que nadie espere escuchar más de lo que se escucha en las copias originales del álbum. Eso sí, como toda esta serie de reediciones, el disco incluye abundante material inédito (según lo lujosa de cada edición, obviamente -habrá doble LP de 180 gramos, CD, cassette, versión expandida de 3CD y la box set deluxe). Se lanzarán el próximo 2 de noviembre de 2018, aunque ya están disponibles en preventa.
