Inspirada, al parecer, en la ruptura del primer matrimonio de David Coverdale e incluida en el tercer disco de Whitesnake como tales, “Ready and Willing” (1980), “Fool For Your Loving” se convirtió en el primer súper hit de la banda, alcanzando el puesto nº 13 en las listas británicas y el nº 53 en las “usamericanas”.
Nueve años más tarde, Steve Vai se encargaría de destrozar con sus chorradas de virtuoso un tema que se había erigido por derecho propio en uno de los mayores clásicos de la Historia del Rock. Con mayúsculas.
En esa ocasión, la discográfica Geffen se encargó de que “Fool for Your Loving” se presentase como primer single del disco “Slip of The Tongue”. Ni que decir tiene que esta nueva versión no cosechó en el Reino Unido el éxito de la primera (un discreto puesto 43), no así en EEUU, muy especialitos ellos, donde consiguió colarse hasta el puesto 37 de las listas rockeras.
En cualquier caso, hasta el propio Coverdale ha mostrado en varias ocasiones su preferencia por el tema original en detrimento del que destrozase el infame Vai.
