Ayer 25 de julio de 2018 se cumplían 35 años exactos de la publicación de “Kill’em All”, el debut de Metallica. Un disco que, como se demostraría más adelante, marcaría un antes y un después en el escenario del heavy, sentando las bases de un nuevo movimiento que sería llamado Thrash Metal y que a la larga los encumbraría como la banda más grande del metal de todos los tiempos (y ahórrense aquí los insultos todos los haters: he dicho la más grande, lo que no significa necesariamente la mejor).
Aquel debut dinamizaría una escena que tendría otros protagonistas, obviamente, pero que siempre irían un poco a rebufo de nuestros protagonistas. Un debut también que, aunque hoy en día ya no sorprende por su rapidez o agresividad, fue en su época uno de los trabajos más bestias que se habían editado hasta el momento. La mezcla entre el sonido de unos Motörhead con las influencias de la NWOBHM darían como resultado un disco extremo -para los estándares de la época, como decimos- que acabó cambiando las reglas, vendiendo una cantidad de elepés nada desdeñable para una banda novel y para un sello independiente. Y esto en una época donde no había internet y donde los intercambios se hacían mediante cintas de cassette grabadas y por correo postal.
Podríamos estar habñando hora dfe “Kill’em All”, pero es mejor que dejemos hablar a la propia música. Como homenaje a este aniversario, hoy en Rock and Roll Army os proponemos como canción para arrancar esta jornada de jueves “Motorbreath”, uno de los clásicos incluidos en este debut.
